How to make capsule filters (2023)?

How to produce capsule filters? What parts and welding machines are used? (2021)
Two years have passed, and the production technology of capsule filters is constantly being updated.
Moreover, recently more friends have turned to us for help, asking us to recommend the production equipment for capsule filter cartridges.
Today, we will update the particle on this basis, hoping to be helpful to factories/friends that want to produce capsule filter elements.
What are the capsule filters?
Capsule filters are ready-to-use products with disposable filter assemblies suitable for many applications, including the prevention of microbial and particulate contamination in gases and liquids.
A capsule filter consists of a pleated filter cartridge integrally sealed into a rugged polypropylene housing (shell). A completely self-contained unit is formed by a state-of-the at thermal bonding process, ensuring maximum filter integrity, security and performance.
Capsule filters vary by length and pore size and are available in single or multi-membrane layers. The products are offered with membrane type and depth type media, membrane type media can be PVDF, PES, PTFE and polypropylene (PP) which are mainly used for critical applications, depth type media can be glass or polypropylene (PP).
Capsule filters are used for filtration of cosmetics, tissue culture media, seawater, purer water, groundwater, fermentation broth, pharmaceuticals, high purity chemicals, corrosive gases and fluid, process chemicals, aquaculture, trace elements, isotopes, radio chemicals, nutrients and ions.
To produce capsule filter, you need following materials and equipment:

  1. Filter medias and membrane
  2. Cartridge filter plastic parts-cage/core/end caps and o rings
  3. Capsule filter plastic parts- housing/shell, outlet/inlet connectors.
(No glues, resins, adhesives, metals or other extraneous materials are used)
  1. Pleat making machine (SIIC-M025-P600)
  2. Pleats middle seamer/middle seam welding machine (SIIC-M025-MSW-PP and SIIC-M025-MSW-H)
  3. Pleats cutting/edges trimming off machine (SIIC-M025-LC)
  4. Cartridge filter end cap welder/welding machine (SIIC-M025-ECWH)
  5. Cartridge filter length connector welding machine (SIIC-M025-LJWH)
  6. Capsule housing (shell), outlet/inlet connector welder/welding machine (SIIC-M025-EW-C)
  7. Pressure testing machine
Here are the steps to produce a capsule filter:

  1. Making pleats: according to your requirement, making multi-layers of pleats for inner cartridge filter, layers number and pleat depths depends on your requirement.
  2. Middle seaming: use correct middle seam welding machine to do seam sealing. Recommended machine model for PP membrane and fiberglass membrane pleats is SIIC-M025-MSW-PP, recommended machine model for PTFE, PVDF, PES and Nylon membrane pleats is SIIC-M025-MSW-H.
  3. Install pleats: Install pleats into cartridge cage and core.
  4. Cut filter: Cutting pleats and do trimming off the edges. Recommend machine model is SIIC-M025-LC.
  5. Weld cartridge filter caps: welding both end caps onto cartridge filters, optional welding mothed include hot plate welding and infrared welding. Infrared welding is recommended, and recommended cap welding machine model is SIIC-M025-EWCH-IR.
Because infrared welding has requirement of caps structure, you shall check with the cartridge filter end cap machines manufacturer whether your existing cap are suitable for infrared welding or not, if you are available, we suggest you to change your existing cap to make it be suitable for infrared welding. It is obvious that compared to hot plate welding, infrared welding has significant advantages in terms of welding accuracy, uniformity, and stability.
  1. Weld capsule filter housing(shell): Capsule filter shell consists of shell body, and connectors (end caps). There are two end caps(connectors) for each capsule filter and shell body may consists of one section, or two or more sections.
There are relatively many types of welding options for capsule filter housing.
Here are the overall welding steps:
6-1. Weld one connector (1st end cap) of capsule filters onto cartridge filter.
6-2. Welding capsule filter housing(shell) onto 1st connector (end cap)
6-3. If your capsule filter housing (shell) body include more than one sections, then you need to weld 2nd section of shell body onto 1st section, then weld 3rd section of shell body onto 2nd section of shell body to complete welding of capsule filter shell.
6-4. Welding the other connector onto capsule filter shell.
Because there are many types of cartridge filters, usually in this step, you need multiple welding equipment to weld all the models of cartridge filters. And each set of capsule filter welding machine needs to be custom made according to the exact structure of your capsule filter model. Reference machine models of capsule filter welding machine are SIIC-M025-EW-C and SIIC-M025-EW-C-H.
  1. Test the capsule filter: perform pressure testing on the completed capsule filter to ensure its integrity and functionality. Apply pressure into the inlet and check for any leaks or defects.
  2. Package the capsule filter: once the capsule filter has passed the pressure testing, it can be packaged and labeled for distribution or further use.
